Royal is a stunning Belgian draft mare who has an undeniable presence. After many years of hard work, she’s earned her spot here at Draft Gratitude. She’s not one for being overly affectionate, but that’s just part of her independent charm.

Feeding time is definitely her favorite part of the day, and she always knows when its feeding time.

Grooming is another highlight for her. She might not be the cuddliest horse, but she enjoys being pampered with a good brushing session—on her terms, of course.

Earlier this year, Royal had a cancerous third eyelid removed. She’s recovered beautifully, but she’s made it clear she’s not a fan of needles. We do everthing we can to keep her veterinary care safe for everyone involved, which somedays is easier than others.

Around the barn, Royal likes to keep things in order. She can be a little bossy with her herd, and especially bossy to poor Charlie who really seems to want to be friends with her.

While she’s not the type to seek out human attention, she’s thriving here, enjoying the peaceful and comfortable life she’s earned. Royal truly lives up to her name—royalty in every way!

Thank you for following along and supporting horses like Royal, your kindess makes her well-deserved retirment possible!
